Dr. Mekenna Bowers

HBSc   DC   CSCC   CPCN

I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of dogs and their families to help strengthen their bond and build effective communication. I started dog training as an Accredited Pet Training Instructor with PetSmart at a high-traffic location in Hamilton, Ontario. I had fantastic mentors, access to an abundance of resources and continuing education, and significant hands-on experience with dogs of all backgrounds, breeds, and temperaments.

I graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto. I have an Honours Bachelor of Science with degrees in Comparative Physiology (Specialist), Biological Anthropology (Major), and Psychology (Minor). This education provided me with an understanding of animal biology, genetics, animal social dynamics, learning theory, communication, and more.

I also hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. This education furthered my scientific understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, and client interaction skills. Additionally, establishing appropriate, personalized treatment plans for each individual. Certification in Animal Chiropractic is to come.

I am continuously learning, furthering my knowledge, and am open to adapting as science clarifies our understanding of canine anatomy, physiology, behaviour, genetics, and more. I always have a quality audiobook or course on the go to ensure I keep up-to-date to provide the most ethical and research-supported care. I have furthered my knowledge in canine fitness and nutrition, and hold my Canine Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCC) certification and am a Certified Professional Canine Nutritionist (CPCN).

My personal life reflects my passion for dog training. I currently have four dogs who have all been adopted/rehomed from less-than-ideal situations. They are all different breeds, ages, and sizes. No dog is exempt from deserving love and a fresh start!

Meet the Team

Treats. Play. Learn.

The Team is composed of pups from different breeds and backgrounds. All are critical members of the In Stride crew! These pups have thrived with positive-reinforcement training and have shown that size, breed, and age don't limit what you can accomplish.

Bella - Puggle

Chief Treat Taster

Bella, 7 years old, joined our team at 2 years old. She didn't know her name, much less any commands. She took to indoor living easily and has been so adaptable to all of life's changes.

She is up for any adventure and would appreciate if you let her tag along!

Bella loves her family but would probably trade usfor a stale french fry.

Meeko - Terrier X

Director of Puppy Resources

Meeko, 5 years old, joined the family at 9 weeks old after another family realized puppy raising wasn't as easy as they thought!

Meeko is extremely intelligent and quick to learn, but is sensitive to change.

Meeko understands that sometimes puppies need a little extra support and a few extra treats!

Keenai - Bernedoodle

Bark Manager

Keenai, 5 years old, is a goofy goober. He's a typical doodle in that he's bouncy and mouthy. His zoomies are accompanied by huffs and barks that are bigger than he is.

Keenai joined the family at 1 year old. His previous family decided he was too big and didn't do any training to help him fit into the family. Keenai has since learned lots and matured into a good goober boy.

Mack - American Bulldog

Enrichment Supervisor

Mack, 4 years old, joined the team at 1 year old. He was underweight and his coat was RUFF! Despite his start in life, this boy is super sweet and full of personality.

Mack does most things at 100%. He brings enthusiasm and a silly grin to everything he does. He's up for adventure, play, snuggles, and pretty much anything as long as it's together.
